After one full day of walking around SEMA’s vast show floor in Las Vegas, it struck us as odd how the bulk of the tricked-out Mazda MX-5 Miatas we’d spotted at the aftermarket show were in Mazda’s booth. We found one more at Koni’s stand, but generally we were surprised that one of 2015’s most anticipated sports cars had only the feeblest SEMA presence. After all, when Scion’s FR-S, the latest Ford Mustang, and similar rides debuted, SEMA was flooded with them! So we were relieved and excited to see Cusco Progressive Equipment not only displaying a 2016 Miata, but also offering a new line of hop-up parts for the roadster. Let’s dig in.

Cusco has so far announced that its program for the 2016 MX-5 Miata will include three different coil-over suspension kits (with varying degrees of adjustability), as well as front and rear anti-roll bars, front and rear strut-tower braces, and several underbody chassis braces. Most appealingly, at least for buyers not keen on coughing up the extra dough for the mid-range Miata Club trim level just to get a factory limited-slip differential, is Cusco’s $1547 limited-slip rear end. It should appeal to anyone who fancies the affordable $25,735 base Miata but who also wants a little more traction coming out of low-speed corners. It is pretty cool stuff, and we can’t wait to see what else comes from the bevy of aftermarket Miata suppliers.
