The Mazda MX-5 Spyder is one of two sweet concept versions of the roadster that Mazda is bringing to the 2015 SEMA show. The Spyder has a retro vibe with a canvas bikini top and a rich leather interior that would look fantastic in a production Miata.
-The Spyder is finished in Mercury Silver, the color contrasted by a set of 17-by-8-inch Yokohama Advan Racing RS II wheels in black wrapped in 225/45 Yokohama Advan A048 rubber. Behind the custom wheels are Brembo four-piston calipers with vented rotors and adjustable coil-over dampers.
- -The black mesh grille is punctuated by two round fog lights, and a full-width front splitter—also in black—turns up at the sides. At the rear is more black lower bodywork, as well as dual, center-exiting exhausts. The side view shows another subtle, black lower-body fairing, black mirror caps, and a ghosted “05” graphic on the door.
-The tan canvas top appears to have no provision for a rear window but its tapered attachments to the body do look cool. The lid matches the interior leather, a Spinneybeck “Prima” natural leather smeared across the seats and door panels.

Mazda boasts that both its show cars are “lightweight” concepts, but at a claimed 2301 pounds, the Spyder shaves only 8 pounds lighter than the stock Miata we tested this summer. For the more radical weight savings, you need to look to its sibling, the MX-5 Speedster.
